Smart Abbreviator is a Microsoft® Word add-in tool designed for the pharmaceutical industry to support the creation of abbreviation tables. This tool helps reduce the burden of creating abbreviation tables and enables centralized abbreviation management.
The creation and quality control (QC) of abbreviation tables require considerable time and effort, despite their relatively low priority within pharmaceutical documents. The process includes extracting abbreviations used in the document and checking for the presence and accuracy of their corresponding full spellings.
This tool provides an automated process for these tasks within documents, aiming to reduce the burden on authors.
This feature lists abbreviations that are either registered in the dictionary or automatically detected based on predefined patterns.
In conjunction with abbreviation extraction, it automatically checks for missing or incorrect full spellings.
Users can select abbreviations to be included in the abbreviation table and insert the table directly into the body of the document.
The abbreviation dictionary is maintainable and can be updated either through this tool or via Microsoft® Excel. When using this tool, the available editing actions can be restricted based on access permissions.
